Episode 47: Le Loup’s Full Moon Mix

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009
This week on the Adventurers of Soul Clap Podcast, we are proud to present a sophisticated, forward thinking and seriously deep mix from Get The Curse contributor and forthcoming Wolf + Lamb artist; the Parisian young blood, Le Loup. Le Loup's production sound very similar to his his DJ mix, reaching into a melting pot of Jazz classics, house and an all around heavy Detroit/NYC vibe.  This set fits perfectly both daytime or afterhours and is a tried and tested compliment to any smokey scenario ;). His upcoming W+L release (WL054 Digital) will feature another re-rub of the popular Nina Simone standard "See Lime Woman", a remix of Nicholas Jaar's "The Student" (formly remixed by Seth Troxler) and our favorite, the deep deep mood setter titled "Give Me Some". Tracklist: 3 Chairs - Dance of nubia Moodymann -  M.E.A.N.D.N.J.B (edit) Le loup - Ghetto sista Anton Zap - Ain't got time B McCarthy - L'amour se soir Omar-S - Oasis one Le loup - Dark fly Jun - Untitled Dj Qu - Be who you want (Main mix) Motor city drum ensemble - Frontin Kris wadsworth - State and griswold STL - All nite long Michael Melchner - Use me Jun - Untitled Parris mitchell - Climb the walls Kris wadsworth - Keep pushin (Chris carrier remix) Parris mitchell - Follow me ghetto(acid) [audio:http://soulclap.us/podcast/episode47.mp3] Episode 47: Le Loup's Full Moon Mix SUBSCRIBE

Episode 46: Crazy Larry Live @ Big Fish, Miami

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009
Back in November, AirDrop had it's Extraction Release Party for the Pl0t crew in Miami and we rocked it longside Paulo, Tanner Ross and Elon. We always love Miami and we partied hard, real hard, so hard we didn't wake up until midnight Sat/Sun morn!  As if we were school kids late for class we exploded out of bed (or air mattress) to the sound of a cell phone alarm and raced down to Big Fish. This place is a super-sick outdoor venue where the Safe Music peoples were presenting Cassy with opening duties from the king of all things "cake fart", the very Crazy Larry.  Lucky for Soul Clap, Larry blessed us with this exclusive recording of his 3 hour mix of expertly programmed deepness, which even features his remix of our forthcoming release for AirDrop Digital called Instafix. For those who dont know, Crazy Larry is a recent Dever, Colorado transplant who has found his niche in the depths of Bushwick, Brooklyn. Over the past few years his production company Udder Madness (yes like a cow) has teamed up with NYC workhorses Blk-Market Membership to produce some of the USA's top events including the now infamous Cheap Sunglasses event series. Sorry NO TRACK LIST, if you're really irked to know whats playing, reply with a time and we'll try to ID. Mr Techno digs Abe Duque

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009
In anticipation of Abe Duque's performance at Midweektechno tomorrow, Wed 2/18, we've asked "Mr Techno" himself Pat Fontes to dig into this artist who has inspired so many.  Let us not forget that we will be celebrating Pat's birthday tomorrow, and while we dont think Abe Duque will be popping out of a cake, we do think that he will punishing the Pheonix Landing sound system with exclusive nastiness. We let Pat Fontes take it from here... So Underground It Hurts is more than just Abe Duque's motto, its literally his signature etched into all of the vinyl releases on his limited edition imprint Abe Duque Records.  He's also done away with your everyday paper artsy labels, opting instead for more pronounced etching where a label might have been.  Sometimes he even avoids track titles all together.  Im guessing he does this to let the music speak for itself, but i gotta tell you that it's something I truly admire and have the upmost respect for!  Here are a few of Abe Duques tracks that I've ripped so you can hear his sound. [audio:http://soulclap.us/audio/abeduque_untitleda1.mp3] Abe Duque - Untitled A1 [Abe Duque Records 005 - Besame Mucho! - 2003] DOWNLOAD / BUY VINYL The first track of choice and all time favorite released in 2003 is a lil jacking freaky breaky number that is a proven party rocker with snip samples of some dude repeating "feel that.....ah... feel that funk !"   Hearing all the crackles and pops you can probably tell that I have worn this record out like a pair of running shoes in a marathon.  You can find this tune entitled Besame Mucho on Abe Duque Records #5 [audio:http://soulclap.us/audio/abeduque_whatyougonnadovsdiscolights.mp3] Abe Duque - What You Gonna Do? vs Disco Lights DOWNLOAD The second track is actually a mix of two tracks that marries Abe Duques somewhat Detroit style to his more edgy NY/Berlin flavor.  Defined as house to some and techno to others, both tracks combine well.  The opening track includes a cameo from non-other than Blake Baxter, which on the flip of this record has the big 2004 hit "What Happened" (a question some of us still ask ourselves once the sun is up)  The other record does the same asking " What you gonna do ?" so yea what you gonna do ? Disco Lights ... Club Nights ... definitely! Thank you Pat ;).  Based out of NYC, Abe Duque is well known as a founding member of the Rancho Relaxo Allstars along with Dietrich Schoenemann and John Selway.  He has also worked closely with DJ Hell co-producing many of his records.  Abe Duque has released original music and remixed since 1993 on labels including Tresor, Tension, International Deejay Gigolo's and many others.  As a DJ Abe has travelled far and wide to play his music, from his once club residency Limelight in NYC to many stops around the globe.  See some fun videos here.

Bonus Episode: Make Love With Soul Clap

Monday, February 9th, 2009
Another holiday, another special Soul Clap mix. This time we were asked to create a Valentine's Day experience in conjunction with our interview on Boldfacers, which sounded good to us (and hopefully to your ears), because, believe it or not we've never made a Valentine's Day mix before. Our goal for "Make Love With Soul Clap" is to create a journey from an ocean of seduction, to a freaky late-night dancefloor to the bedroom and then beyond, to the outer reaches of the galaxy, before finally cooling down with the rhythm of romance. This is a mix designed for you to put on with your lover or freak-out to on your own, but most of all make sure to have it ready and waiting on Valentine's Day. This special mix is hosted by Paulo and we hope you enjoy it. Tracklist Janet Jackson - Anytime Anyplace Art Of Noise - Love Beat Cee-Lo - Closet Freak Moodymann - Freeki Mutha F cker Rob Mello - Love Nasty Cassy - For You Alan Smithee - Blue Blackness (CMAW Dub) Womack & Womack - Concious (Gator Boots Edit) Raze - Break 4 Love (Caught In The Act Mix) Midnight Star - Midas Touch (CFCF Remix) Kuniyuki - All These Things (Theo Parrish Remix Vox) 6th Borough Project - Nights Over Memphis (The Revenge Dub) Omar ft. Nicolas Jaar, Future Superstar

Monday, February 2nd, 2009
Nicolas Jaar is younger than you, but he already has quite the jump on the electronic music establishment. Born in NYC and raised in Chile, Nicolas has a very organic approach to electronic music. At 14 he began producing and by 17 he had his first release on Wolf+Lamb. With a Seth Troxler remix of his "The Student" due on W+L vinyl and his own Clown & Sunset label set to launch this month, you don't want to miss his first Boston appearance this Wednesday (2/4/09) at Phoenix Landing. For a full bio and a preview of Nicolas' live set make sure to check out his recent appearance on AirPod. How did you get into electronic music in the first place? I got into electronic music when I realized that it could be organic and warm and nice like other types of music. I first listened to Villalobos' Thé au Harem d'Archimède when I was 14 years old and to this day I think it is his best work. At around the same time I had just started tickling Reason - the software. The first track I ever did with a kick drum is Hage Chahine and it was released on Wolf + Lamb when I was 17 three years later. Who are your major influences? My major influence is the dancer Evelyne Meynard. How'd you link up with Wolf+Lamb? I sent a track called "the student" to Gadi and Zev after hearing them speak in a NYU radio show. Hearing both of them talk about the future of music made me realize they were the place for me. Wolf + Lamb is now my spiritual home. As incredibly talented producers and individuals, they have the brightest future ahead of them in the next few months. Do you feel like there's a new generation of young electronic producer's that are going to change the shape of the music over the next 5 years? Music has to evolve. Like everything else. I'm working on creating my own instrument for the live experience to grow out of its present 17" dimension. I feel a lot of people are starting to understand that, as electronic music producers, we cannot go on sharing our music through nothing more than a computer; in the next 5 years a new conception of performance should begin to emerge, shaping the mold, creating a new stage for new music to arise. I've recently created my own label Clown and Sunset, a platform for young artists that share similar views to express themselves. Check out a live set by Nicolas for AirPod: [audio:http://www.airdrop.com/podcast/airpod19nicolasjaar.mp3] AirPod 19: Nicolas Jaar's Live Set - more info
