Sure has been awhile since we posted anything about Soul Clap releases, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy putting music out on both our label homes (Airdrop and Wolf + Lamb). Since we last posted about our MJ Edits EP on W+L in August, we’ve had our first all original artist EP “The Definition” released on Airdrop 12″ vinyl + digital. Then in October our second Wolf + Lamb Black 12″ vinyl release, the “Pop Edits” was sent out into the word. Next, mid-November our remixes of No Regular Play’s “Smiling Faces” & “Derecha” hit Beatport, with both breaking the deep house top 100 and Smiling peaking at #22. Finally, this week, our collaboration with Le Loup, “I Want You” was featured as a digital bonus on W+L’s Significant Others Too EP. For those of you paying attention, Baker Man Edit comes out on AUX 12″ vinyl this month and we’ve got loads more instore for 2010, so stay tuned!

So you probably noticed that we disappeared from the blog for awhile. Basically our hosting company (1and1, never use them, they suck) has a limit on the size of databases they host and no way to get more space. The timing was horrible and we didn’t have time to fix it before euro-tour so we could only keep you up to date on facebook and twitter while we were gone (both worth checking, but not as in depth as the blog). Well we’ve finally got our hosting sorted and now we can spend the next week updating the blog on everything that’s gone down since the end of August when it died. We just posted our animated interview with Heidi and last week got a new podcast episode up of part 1 (of 3) of our 4 hour set in Leeds.

Now here are a couple more recordings of our sets from tour for your listening pleasure. Here’s the first 45 minutes of our debut performance at Watergate in Berlin for Heidi’s Jackathon party as posted on the Bodytonic Podcast. There’s been much ado about dance music in our little twisted world this week. To top things off we got some numbers back for Beatport sales on our Wolf + Lamb Edits and much to our surprise, we’re BIG IN JAPAN. Not sure if its because of the Soul Clap Tween-Anime fan club over there, but we certainly hope it is, hehe.

Also, necessary big ups to our good friend Chinua Green for being “oh so current” with his Mixmag subscription, and to the great Jamie Jones for making our Conscious Edit #1 on his chart this month (see below)!

Speaking of big-ups, the princess of BBC Radio One, Mz Heidi Vanden Amstel went above and beyond on her latest “In New DJ’s We Trust” show with what may just be the illest Boston shout out of ALL TIME! Her time here in Boston was such a pleasure, and her DJ set at Midweek Techno, FAHGETABOUTIT! Heidi, you got straight up FAM in the bean girl, FO REALZ, please come back any time For those who haven’t heard this last show, check here, the shout out is 16 minutes in and its full of serious bombs AND a piece of her tag team set with Justin Martin from Exit Festival last month.

One last piece of news, we are proud to announce our next 2 big releases! Coming 8/4 it’s our first Wolf + Lamb digital EP (artwork at the top of this post). The release features a collection of three Michael Jackson tribute tracks including two from us titled Michael Went To Heaven (110 bpm) and Michael Went To Hell (108 bpm) as well as a cut from the No Regular Play boys called Things I Know, which features a Greg Paulus/MJ duet (figures). THEN 8/28 our next AirDrop release drops on vinyl. It’s our 4th vinyl on our original musical home (and their 11th vinyl so far) and we’re calling it the Definition EP because it marks the many new directions of our original music. We’re REALLY proud of this one and can’t wait for it to go out into the world

Last Saturday was the party to end all parties at The Marcy Hotel in Brooklyn, NY.  The official line-up Lee Foss, Zev, Gadi, Le Loup, Jamie Jones & Mr Damian Lazarus.   By the time 11a or 12p came around we were asked to play.  It was both a tremendous honor and the beginning of the adventure of a lifetime

Ah yes, what a proud moment indeed! How often is it that Boston gets proper love on Resident Advisor? Very rarely. And how often is it that TWO roommates (Cnyce and the great Tanner Ross) receive nearly back-to-back features on the same day?? Dude, like NEVAH kid!

Anyways, mega props to Tanner Ross and James aka Killowatts for their hard work on the long awaited Voodeux album titled The Paranormal slated for release in July on Claude Von Stroke’s Mothership label, and big up the Soul Clap massive because the legacy of the “Love Light” and “Conscious” edits on due out in June on Wolf + Lamb Black just keeps on living!

So former Boston resident Amy Grill and longtime Boston dance music supporter and current Weekly Dig arts editor, David Day have been working on this techno documentary for probably like 5 years now and it turned into a personal saga. This Thursday Amy and David are finally hosting the official Speaking In Code world premiere and it’s happening right here in Boston (well Somerville to be exact). We are super lucky to have this screening in our city so get your tickets here if you like dance music and you live in Boston!

Hot diggety, it sure has been awhile since we’ve posted anything on this here blog. As you probably figured out we got lost in the vortex that is WMC, but it’s OK, because we are finally back and of course, better then ever!

The Podcast: The next couple episodes of the podcast feature Boston heroes DJ Bruno and Matty Dimond and will be coming to your iTunes over the next week (hopefully Bruno will be up today).

New Releases: We have a bunch of new music out on Beatport and in honor of all the new releases the folks over there hooked us up with a DJ chart. Check it out to hear all the jams we were rocking at WMC and a few of our own After selling out on vinyl, Puppy Crack is finally available for digital download as well as our remix of Crazy Larry’s Gargiulo’s Scarf and AirDrop’s Extraction US comp, which features our track called Astroturfing.

Events: The next couple weeks are going to be full of springtime excitement in Boston! Tuesday 4/7 is YoYoYo 90’s Jam, Wednesday 4/8 the ITALOBOYZ are back at Midweek Techno, Saturday, 4/11 is Snakes On A Rave at a never before used Boston venue (yeh we can do events on weekends!) and then Wednesday 4/15 PACO OSUNA returns to Midweek Techno. Oh yeah and don’t forget that Dancing On The Charles kicksoff in May (more details on that soon !

When you first hear the name J*Davey you obviously think it’s one person. But obviously you are wrong (see above picture). J*Davey is Jack and Brook Davey. Here’s what we know: Brook is the dude, Jack is the chick, they make some seriously awesome genre bending music and our sister, Abington Von Koo the 3rd went to school with Miss Jack. Soooo, in honor of their show this Sunday (3/8/09) at Harper’s Ferry in Boston (which we are opening for) we had our woman about town catch up with the Daveys (which turned out only to be Brook, even though Abington knows Jack better?) for this wild exposé.

To celebrate New Year’s Eve 2009, Boston’s annual First Night festival asked us, along with DJs Die Young & Morgan Louis and VJs Robotkid & M@tt Boch to rock an outdoor dance party from the steps of the Boston Public Library in historic Copley Square. After a morning blizzard and with wind chill temperatures well bellow 0º Fahrenheit we didn’t expect anyone to show up, but by 11pm the square filled up with mostly younger party animals, that braved the cold and kept the energy pumping til the city cut us off after the ball drop. Happy ‘09!

Back on September 20th before throwing down at the Extraction Release Party at Bar13 (AirDrop actually just posted Crazy Larry’s Mix from the night) we hit up our favorite record store for an instore new disco experience. We just unearthed the link and you can hear the mix here.

Speaking of Extraction US, those flyers you see up there are for two dates on our upcoming tour in support of the compilation, which features Soul Clap and other Extraction artist performances in Miami, Denver, LA, SF & NYC from 11/28/08-12/12/08. The compilation’s release is quickly approaching and it looks like RA took notice. To hear our track from Extraction and more tour dates check our myspace page.

A sad moment for world music, South African singing legend Miriam Makeba has passed after collapsing on stage during a concert in Italy.  She was 71 years old.

Makeba, known as “Mama Africa”, spent more than 30 years in exile after lending her support to the anti-apartheid struggle. Makeba was the ex wife of fellow South African music legend Hugh Masekela and then remarried Black Panther Stokely Carmichael.  She also the FIRST black African woman to win a Grammy Award, which she shared with Harry Belafonte in 1965.  Footage of Makeba’s last concert can be found here.

Well planet Earth, last night history was made. Love has come around at a most critical time. Pride has been restored in the hearts of so many of us who were led astray over eight excruciating years!

Where ever you were when Obama was declared the winner, remember the moment. You’ve witnessed democracy and freedom in its finest hour! We were with close friends in Brookline, MA wishing of course we could be with the crowds in Chicago and wondering which leaders of American house music would be playing a most historic DJ set in the windy city. Incredibly, our girl Beba Knight was at the center of the entire movement last night, at President Elect Obama’s BARBER SHOP of 14 years. Imagine the energy! So to set things off right, we’re proud to preview some brand new and exclusive music from our good friend Trusme (Prime Numbers, Manchester U.K.). Just because he can’t vote doesn’t mean he can’t contribute to the spirit of the moment! This official remix will be released on Strutt Records in a few weeks.

It makes us so psyched to have these crazy outdoor dance parties (in Boston/Cambridge no less) that we have to keep saying it over and over again so you know how serious we are. Last Saturday couldn’t have been a more beautiful summer night and despite some technical difficulties with the sound (sorry for that) the recordings of the sets finally came out right. Ever since the announcement in May that the folks who throw the awesome minimoo parties in New York City were organizing a full on electronic music festival, the mothership has been abuzz with excitement for the long overdue birth of the northeast U.S.’s first such event. Now as the date of minitek electronic music and innovation festival fast approaches (8/12-8/14), the festival has teamed up with our good friends over at AirDrop to present a competition to remix AirDrop artist and minitek performer Fase Miusic Sender’s latest single on the label, Lejano Oeste. Even more exciting? We’re helping judge the competition! We haven’t been that impressed with any of the submissions so far, so all you producers get your versions in by September 3rd and if we like it, your remix will be released on AirDrop.

P.S. minitek is releasing a new exclusive podcast each week leading up to the festival and this is the 6 week one that Fase did.

Phew. After almost 3 weeks with no updates you’re probably wondering what the heck happened to us, and the answer is Israel. We spent 2 weeks in the motherland, traveling, meeting people and experiencing Tel Aviv’s nightlife firsthand and needless to say it was both rejuvenating and inspiring. Now that we’re finally back we have tons of new music, events and press to share with you. So here goes…

• Music: We’ve got our next round of releases and remixes in the pipes so stay tuned for some big news on the original music front. In the meantime our buddy DJ Devlin of Spankrock/XXXchange fame gave us a chance to shine on their Fully Fitted blog Live@Home DJ mix series, so we turned out a bumping mix of some our favorite mid 90’s garage house classics that you can check out here. We also are in full swing with our Snack Pack Jack Attack Radio Show, every Thursday from 12p-2p on UtopiaBostonRadio and you can check the archives here.
• Events: The second half of August is going to be crazy for us and dance music in Boston in general. Saturday 8/23 is the second to last installment of D.O.T.C. 2008 with a superstar lineup of local DJs. Tuesday 8/26 at Middlesex is the next Yoyoyo 90’s Jam. And to close it all out, Saturday 8/30 is the mega-event to end all mega-events with Armand Van Helden, Junior Sanchez, Soul Clap and a slew of local DJs dropping 11 hours of outdoor dance music at the Marina Bay Beach Club, WOAH!

Tonight is special, because UK Techno superstar Lee Burridge is performing at the Underbar alongside our buddies Sergio “Nylz” Santos and Eli Wilkie.  Certainly newsworthy, for guest list email sergio@marzentertainment.com.  Or just tell people at the door that you’re “Joe Mama’s Uncle”.

I don’t think there could be a more appropriate title for this post.

First of all, DOTC returned to the Marsh Post after a brief hiatus, complete with the added visual stimulation of VJ Zebbler on 3 screens (see video above) and more than enough port-o-potties and beer outside to last the night. Pictures are up here (thanks Iris) and here (thanks JK) and as always a super-mega thank you goes out to everyone that came out and danced their asses off. You make us so proud to be able to throw these parties, there is no DOTC without your support!

Second of all, for our next DOTC on July 12th, we’re joined by Boston’s undisputed king of digging and BBE recording artist, DJ Kon of the On Track mixtape series fame. Kon will be playing deep dance music of all kinds from 8-10pm to setup the vibe just right and we’ll be posting some exclusive Kon mixes to get you in the mood the next couple weeks, so stay tuned.

Our first music review from XLR8R’s Nick Chacona and some solid national press for “die Ente” and “The Giraffe“. Can you believe a “Bronx-born New Yorker” is saying “Boston is representin’”?

“As a Bronx-born New Yorker, it’s not really in my blood to say that Boston is representin’ in any way, but considering the magnitude of the first releases from the new AirDrop imprint, it looks like they’re in the midst of a real (tea) party. Both releases come from Soulclap, the duo of Cnyce and DJ Elyte. The label’s inaugural release, “The Giraffe,” is a limited-edition colored-vinyl 10″ that features a mix from Franco Cinelli that’s straight out of Lee Curtis‘ twisted tech-house playbook. The second single, “die Ente,” also keeps things on the deep-tech tip initially, then launches into some serious early ’90s-style synth-sax house business that could fit easily into Luciano’s and Quentin Harris‘ sets. Boston’s hero of the moment, dirtybirds’s Tanner Ross, is enlisted here on mix duties, and utilizes some highly reverbed crystalline synth tones and thunderous bass growls to full modern-rave effect.”

It’s not official yet, but summertime has most definitely arrived in the city that Soulclap calls home. Windows are open, patios and porches are in business, and shorts and sundress have replaced jeans on the streets and at the parties. These are all reasons we love summer in Boston, but none of them spell “summer is here” like the letters D O T C. Yep, you guessed it I’m talking about Dancing On The Charles, which finally kicked off over the weekend with a loud bang. Not even thunderstorms could keep people away as a capacity crowd enjoyed the first installment of the party that is putting Boston on the worldwide house and techno terrace map (sure it’s not afterhours, but give us a little break). Finally and most important, a huge THANK YOU goes out to our Boston/Cambridge people for helping us kick off the summer right and we hope you’re as excited as we are for part 2, my birthday bbq edition with special guest Trus’me from Prime Numbers and Defected Records in Manchester, UK making a stop on his US debut tour (more on him soon)! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the release of The Giraffe, but we’re already getting ready for our second vinyl release on AirDrop Records so it’s time to party again and this time around it’s going down in their home city of NYC. It’s also happening at one of the best venues for techno in the Big Apple, Bar13, home of the BLK|Market Membership and Biatch Corp events. And never ones to forget our friends, we’re bringing Boston down there with us: die Ente remixer Tanner Ross is headlining and fellow Midweek Techno residents Pat Fontes & Sergio Santos are warming it all up (click the links to check podcasts they’va done for us). Minimaril is a new homey from Venezuela by way of Buenos Aires. He’s super tight with Paulo from AirDrop and turns out like a new track a day. His debut was his “Too Young To Be Famous” track released last month on AirDrop’s Extraction LP (which if you don’t have you should buy immediately), but the craziest thing about Minimaril is that he’s only 19 years old. He’s already been DJing for 5 years and his productions are uniquely funky minimal so we’re really looking forward to hearing more from one of AirDrop’s many young guns. Minimaril’s first solo release is the Samba EP, it’s out now as AirDrop Digi 001 exclusively on Juno Download and we had the privilege of turning out a remix for the release. Eventually we’ll explain why we called it the Nice’n'Ripe Rub, but for now you gotta try to figure it out yourself *GUNSHOT*.
