Dixon, The Fine Wine Of Dance Music

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

True wine snobs know that the real good stuff comes from France. True cigar aficionados know that there is nothing like product from Cuba. Sergio knows that the best smoke comes from the Humbodlt Valley, and while the best dance music hasn’t always come from Berlin, electronic music connoisseurs know that Dixon’s sound can only be classified as the finest German import.

Wednesday, September 24th Dixon will perform at Wednesday’s @ Phoenix Landing for a FIRST EVER Boston/Cambridge appearance. We are ecstatic about the show because Dixon is an extraordinarily rare act to book. The man, alongside Ame, behind Innervisions Recordings has stayed true to his deep roots, redefining the sound of contemporary European house music. He embodies the history of dance music and disco and (much like matty dimond!!!) is a master of DJ programming. Door will open at 9pm for this special night with a warm up from House/Techno trendsetter Sergio Santos. The cover is $10 all night. ALSO, THIS IS A 19+ EVENT.

Here are some mind blowing mixes that have had more run than Sergio’s dirty laundry:

Tonight is special, because UK Techno superstar Lee Burridge is performing at the Underbar alongside our buddies Sergio “Nylz” Santos and Eli Wilkie.  Certainly newsworthy, for guest list email sergio@marzentertainment.com.  Or just tell people at the door that you’re “Joe Mama’s Uncle”.

Here are some Lee Burridge goodies in anticipation of his Boston arrival:

7/2/08 – The Portuguese Connection is coming!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Portuguese chouriço is made with pork, fat, wine, paprika and salt. In and around Lisbon it is popular to eat partially sliced chouriço that has been flame cooked over alcohol at the table. Special glazed earthenware dishes with a lattice top are used for this purpose.

DJs Sergio Santos and Pat Fontes are Portuguese-Americans who are also made with pork, fat, wine, paprika and salt. In and around the Phoenix Landing, it is popular to listen to them trade off acting macho and playing some of the best damn dance music in town. Join two of our favorite specially blazed, i mean glazed earthenware DJs on Wednesdays night as Portugal takes over the wheels of steel.

Here are some oldies but goodies from these two fine gentlemen, taken from The Adventures Of Soulclap Podcast.

5/30/08: AirDrop QuackParty

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the release of The Giraffe, but we’re already getting ready for our second vinyl release on AirDrop Records so it’s time to party again and this time around it’s going down in their home city of NYC. It’s also happening at one of the best venues for techno in the Big Apple, Bar13, home of the BLK|Market Membership and Biatch Corp events. And never ones to forget our friends, we’re bringing Boston down there with us: die Ente remixer Tanner Ross is headlining and fellow Midweek Techno residents Pat Fontes & Sergio Santos are warming it all up (click the links to check podcasts they’va done for us). The best part? Admission is only $5 if you RSVP here!

2/13/08 – Sergio Santos, Alan Manzi, Eddie O

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

First off please allow us to apologize for the lack of podcast last week. It was very unfortunate that we lost a fantastic “decks ‘n efx” set from Cates & DPL who did Techno damage on 2/6/08. We’re working on getting a live mix from them to post so you can hear the noise they make, meantime check out DPL’s youtube channel, hilarious!

Last week we celebrated Unlocked Groove/Zer0 G Sounds label owner Eddie O’s birthday with sonic re-enforcement from resident DJ Sergio Santos and local hell raiser Alan Manzi. The atmosphere was none-the-less “festive” and things got a little hairy behind the decks, however as we all know at the Phoenix landing you can run, but you can’t hide from the one’s and two’s ;) . Regardless, another 4 hours of heady mental bangers.

MWT Podcast 1/30/08: Jay Prouty & Sergio Santos

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

In terms of staying on top of new music, little is left uncovered by resident DJ Sergio “the digital goldmine” Santos and last weeks DJ set was living proof. Joined by crowd pleaser Jay Prouty, the two tagged up a storm ripping forward moving techno sounds all night long. For those that don’t know, Jay comes from a progressive back round, so his sound could be classified as a progy approach to the bigger deep-bassline techno a la Robert Babicz, Stefan Bodzin or Damien Schwartz.

Listen to this pounding DJ set, its no surprise these guys are a favorite for Boston’s big room gigs. Ironically, Sergio and Jay can also be found once a month in a very small room at their Fresh Fruit parties.
